Nanda Devi Gateway Trek - Dharansi Pass

Dharansi Pass in the Garhwal Himalayas is the entry route of Nanda Devi Sanctuary. We, the mountaineers of Garhwal call it the Nanda Devi gateway trek because this is the most accessible route if one wants to ascent Nanda Devi west peak.

Dharansi Pass is amongst the least traveled trek because it's remote and also because of the ban on entering the sanctuary. The local forest department accepts only a limited number of entry to trekkers in this famed paradise for mountaineers.

Dharansi Pass trek through Lata Kharak is also your best chance to explore the banned Nanda Devi Sanctuary from the fringes. If you want to visit this zone, you're only allowed to the region where you can hike the Talwar Dhar ridge. From here, a 360 view of Himalayan peaks is a lifetime memory for any avid mountaineer. The sacred and secret pilgrimage trek is once in a lifetime chance to experience this cult around the goddess Nanda Devi herself.

FACTS:

  • Nanda Devi is the highest peak @ 7817 m, which is completely in India.
  • It is the 23rd highest peak in the world.
  • Nanda Peak is the most revered deity for Uttarakhand denizens.
  • The region is home to Bhotia people.
  • The region is home to rare wildlife like Snow Leopard, Himlayan Black Beer, Musk Deer, and more

The Grand View

Trekking to Dharasi Pass provides hikers a stunning view of Nanda Devi peak amongst other high-rise peaks of the Indian Himalayas. This view is like no other place with the view of major peaks like Nanda Devi, Dronagiri, Devistan, Hanuman, Bethartoli, Ronti, Chaukhamba, Barmal, Ghori, and many others recognized and unrecognized peaks of central Himalayas. It seems we can touch these mountains while camping at Dharansi.

We Bangalore lads thought it'll be just a trek with backpackers lurking all over. But hello... WE didn't meet or saw another human throughout our 4 days on the slopes. Mind boggling. This crew is amazing too.
